Dear Hiring Manager,
It is with much excitement that I would like to apply for the position of Equine Team member at the Houston SPCA. My lifelong experience with horses and my commitment to the wellbeing of horse would make me a perfect fit for this role.
Most recently I have managed Judith Shaw’s small farm in Oconee County Georgia. She has 2 Paso Finos, a Quarter horse and a young Thoroughbred horse retired from the track. I took care of cleaning, feeding, bathing, barn maintenance, and training the Thoroughbred Eddie to jump. Eddie went from not being able to go both directions in the arena to jumping small fences and performing lead changes. I was also able to detect colic in two of the horses and make sure the vet came out immediately and the horses recovered quickly.
I have also been Head Wrangler at the Stables at Tamaya in Bernalillo New Mexico for a year. We had a farm of around 30 horses including a Mustang, Percherons, Quarter Horses and Clydesdales. This job has been by far my favorite job I have ever had. I would clean stalls and feed the horses, tack up horses and give two rides a day. I would also tack the draft horses for pulling wagon to pick up guests at the resort. We would turn the horses out daily and make sure they were very well taken care of. I would also train the horses to fix any issues they had on the trail. One horse had an issue of laying down on the trail and I rode the horse daily and was able to correct this issue. I started to train to drive horses but the barn closed before I could complete my training.
In addition to my professional horse experience I started riding horses at the age of 5 and trained until I was 16 at Hunter and Jumpers. I started showing in Med Pony Hunter at 7 years old and eventually showed Small and Large Junior Hunters. I was a daily rider for that 11 years and trained winters with no stirrups. My showing career highlights were zone 5 champion with both my Small Junior Castle Rising and my Large Jr Lex Luther. I also went to Nationals in Harrisburg PA and ASPCA McClay regional finals in St. Louis. I took excellent care of my horses and transported them back and forth to shows.
I believe in the good work that your organization is doing. In my younger years I wanted to be a star rider and now in my life I just want to make sure that all animals are taken care of and have a safe and happy home. Please reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Brittainy Lauback
